Cherokee Dam

The Cherokee Dam is northwest of Sevierville Tennessee at Jefferson City. The dam created Cherokee Lake which is the Holston River. The lake is 45 square miles and 59 miles long. It was constructed in 1940. It is operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority which also operates Norris Dam, Douglass Dam, Fontana Dam (near Tail of the Dragon) and other dams in the area. These dams provide electric power from their water flow. We drove through the area yesterday and walked the 6760 foot walkway across the dam. It is a large, long dam.
