It took all day to see Custer State Park and the surrounding area, all in the Black Hills National Park. We drove by Mount Rushmore about 11:00 am and the traffic backup into the monument was about a mile long. We decided to see it another day. The best drive and scenery is the Needles Highway.

| The ground elevation here was 6400 feet. We are surrounded by rock tops are much higher than this. Clingmans Dome in the Smokies is about 6600 feet. |
